The Stretch of I-10 Through Florida’s Panhandle
The stretch of I-10 that runs through Washington and Jackson Counties in Florida’s Panhandle is one of the most remote highway corridors in the state. Long distances between exits, minimal lighting at night, and heavy commercial truck traffic make a breakdown here particularly stressful.
If you get a flat tire on I-10 near Chipley, Marianna, Bonifay, or anywhere in this stretch of the Panhandle, here’s what you need to know.
Why This Stretch of I-10 Is Particularly Challenging
Between Tallahassee and Pensacola, I-10 passes through stretches where exits can be 10 to 15 miles apart. If you lose a tire between exits, you may be a significant distance from any gas station, repair shop, or tow service. Cell service can also be spotty in parts of Washington and Jackson Counties. This makes it critical to call for help immediately — before you’re fully stranded — and to know exactly who to call.
Pull Off Safely
As soon as you feel the tire go, ease off the gas and steer firmly toward the right shoulder. Don’t stop on the travel lanes or the gore area near an on-ramp. Find the widest, flattest portion of the shoulder and get as far from moving traffic as possible. Turn on your hazards immediately and keep them running.
Call Deluxe Roadside: 1-888-720-5810
Deluxe Roadside covers all of Washington, Jackson, and Bay Counties, including Chipley, Marianna, Bonifay, Graceville, Vernon, Wausau, Blountstown, and the Panama City corridor. We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and our technicians are positioned to serve this entire region.
Call 1-888-720-5810 with your mile marker or exit number and we’ll dispatch to you immediately. Our target response time is under 30 minutes, and we carry equipment for on-the-spot mobile tire service — meaning we can change your flat and get you rolling without a tow truck in most situations.
What If You Don’t Have a Spare?
Many newer vehicles — particularly crossovers and sedans — no longer come with a full-size spare tire. Some have a compact “donut” spare, and others have no spare at all, relying instead on run-flat tires or a can of tire inflator foam. If your spare is inadequate or you don’t have one, calling a mobile tire service is your only real option short of a tow.
Deluxe Roadside carries replacement tires and can mount and balance a new tire at your location in most cases. This gets you back on I-10 safely without the wait and expense of a full tow to a tire shop.
Staying Safe While You Wait on I-10
If you have reflective triangles or road flares, place them 100 feet behind your vehicle. Stay inside your car with your seatbelt on — do not stand behind or beside the vehicle. Semi-trucks traveling at highway speeds create significant wind displacement, and standing near the travel lanes is dangerous. Our technician will approach safely when they arrive and manage the repair from the shoulder side of the vehicle.
